After numerous vertical tastings this past year, we have picked up that the even numbered vintages are fuller and rounder than the odd vintages, the former expressing abundant fruit whereas the latter is more Burgundian in style. The 2006 does not deviate from this pattern, presenting a delicious wine which is full-bodied with lashings of blackberry fruit and well-rounded tannins. Another thing we learnt from our vertical tastings is that the Pinot Noir has excellent ageing potential, still showing well after a decade in the bottle. This is the ideal partner for richly flavoured game dishes or duck with cherries.

Takuan has to have the last word: "We're still drinking our way into the vintage, so I look forward to watching this wine develop."
