With a relatively cool Christmas we hoped for (and got) a slightly later start to the harvest, in spite of the searing heat wave after New Year. Nevertheless, the heat got us scrabbling for our shears as grape sugar levels started to soar by mid January. On January 19th the first Pinot Noir grapes of the 2011 vintage were picked, a week later than the average date of the past decade.
We always start picking earlier than most wine farms, as we pick about a third of our grapes for our range of Pierre Jourdan MCC. The riper the grape, the higher the sugar level, and the higher the sugar level, the higher the level of alcohol.

JOIN THE CLUB
Haute Cabrière has launched its own exclusive club for the benefit of loyal buyers. Membership of the club is easy: simply purchase wine to the value of R1 500 and look forward to discounted deliveries of wine to your doorstep.
This once-off purchase entitles you to membership of either the Cellar Club or the Proprietors Club and you will receive a welcoming gift as well.
Cellar Club members will receive a 12 bottle gift pack twice a year, delivered free of charge anywhere in South Africa. The cost of the case will be between R950 and R1 300, a 5% discount on cellar door prices.
Proprietors Club members will receive a 12 bottle gift pack four times a year, delivered free of charge anywhere in South Africa. The cost of these cases will be between R850 and R1 200, a 10% discount on cellar door prices.

We're offering a beautiful gift pack to celebrate the occasion, featuring a bottle of Belle Rose and 2 fluted glasses each containing hand-made Belgian truffles from the Huguenot Chocolatiers for only R185. You'll just need a picnic blanket and some snacks and your evening will be complete.
