Essentially born into the family business, Takuan has been involved in Haute Cabrière from an early age. Sharing his parents’ passion for wine, he formalised his knowledge by studying wine growing and cellar management in Germany; he further honed his skills working in cellars and vineyards in Germany, France and Australia. Takuan returned to South Africa in 2004 to join Haute Cabrière – the farm founded by his father Achim von Arnim in 1982 – as Cellar Master and more recently as Production Director.
Achim is an artist, poet, cellar master, visionary and most certainly a pioneer in the South African wine industry. He learned to appreciate the culture of wine in France, where he gained practical wine growing experience, following his studies at the German university of Geisenheim. Achim sums his achievement and creation up as follows: “Haute Cabriere is my dream, and I love fulfilling my dream.”
Hildegard was born on a wine farm in the German Mosel region. Her father was a vintner and having met Achim during his studies in Germany was a real blessing for her: “He makes wine so much fun! Through his passion and joy, he so often reminds me of that happy place that was my childhood.” Hildegard looks after many of the guests that choose to visit Haute Cabriere on a daily basis and she loves sharing all the stories that have made Haute Cabriere what it is today.
