Haute Collection Debut Vertical Tasting | Hosted by Takuan von Arnim, Cellar Master

To celebrate Franschhoek Wine Valley’s Uncorked festival – we have curated a very special event for visitors to the valley.

Join us on 6 or 7 November and be amongst the first to experience a vertical tasting of our Haute Collection range of wines. Having launched in 2019, our Haute Collection is the newest range within our stable and has become the ultimate playground for Cellar Master Takuan von Arnim and Winemaker Tim Hoek. This Haute Collection showcases skill, creativity and a pioneering spirit as a maverick range of site-specific Franschhoek wines.

“The opportunity to explore exceptional blocks and unleash their potential!? Yes. We took it with both hands.” – Takuan & Tim

While not all the wines in this range are repeated each year, there is now the opportunity to explore our spirit of ingenuity with a limited vertical tasting. The tasting will consits of the library collection 2017 vintage, the current 2018 vintage and the yet to be released 2019 vintage of our Haute Collection Chardonnay and Haute Collection Pinot Noir.

Haute Collection Chardonnay 2017 was the debut wine which launched the Haute Collection in 2019. In 2014, a single vineyard of old-vine Chardonnay planted in 1983 was identified as truly exceptional and so the idea was planted to create a new range of site-specific wines using interesting techniques and blocks with immense potential. The Chardonnay hails from a cool site with deep sandy loam soil. Much as a chef who focuses on quality ingredients with little manipulation, so too does the Chardonnay offer perfection from fruit intensity and ripening through to the final truly remarkable wine.

Pair with smoked salmon, citrus dressing, avocado & crispy onions.

Haute Collection Chardonnay

These vines cover point eight of a hectare, with 1m x 1m high-density planting, the bunches and berries are small, with intensity of fruit and flavour. The ageing process is complex with new oak adding an outstanding platform to showcase vintage. With this low-yield, only around 1000 bottles are produced within each selected vintage.

Pair with cured venison, red fruits, sherry vinegar-pickled mushroom.
